IGIMS suspends 15 MBBS students

IGIMS suspends 15 MBBS students
The students had allegedly ragged their juniors on June 4
PATNA: The Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) administration on Thursday suspended 15 MBBS students on charges of ragging their juniors. The suspension order was issued following the recommendation of the institute’s anti-ragging committee, which met on Thursday under the chairmanship of IGIMS dean Dr S K Shahi.
Several second year MBBS students were allegedly ragged by their seniors in the hostel of the institute on July 4.
“The 15 students have been suspended till completion of the investigation,” said an IGIMS official.
The IGIMS had hit the headlines on July 4 when some miscreants managed to enter the college campus with the help of a few MBBS students and created ruckus there. Several students were injured in stone-pelting by the miscreants. The incident had forced closure of the institute for some days. The IGIMS was reopened last week after deployment of additional security forces on the campus.
IGIMS principal Dr Ranjit Guha said as per the decision taken by the anti-ragging committee, 15 students of 2013, 2014 and 2015 batches were suspended. “Complaints had been lodged against these students with anti-ragging committee, Medical Council of India and local police station. We have mailed a copy of suspension letter to the MCI as well,” he said, adding if allegations levelled by the students of 2016 batch against their seniors were found true, strong action would be taken against the accused.
