Munger university to audit sports funds in colleges

Munger university to audit sports funds in colleges
PATNA: The newly created Munger University has decided to get the sports funds in all its 17 constituent colleges audited to maintain transparency. The comptroller and auditor general (CAG) has also sought a report from the university, said vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Ranjit Kumar Verma.
Verma told this newspaper on Monday that each constituent college of the university was collecting Rs100 per student in the name of sports at the time of admission.
Thus, the colleges have been asked to give details of the money collected for sports funds as well as its utilization, he said, adding the university would send a detailed report to the CAG.
According to the VC, the university has launched a comprehensive healthcare programme for teachers, non-teaching staff and students under a composite scheme as envisaged by the UGC and the state government. The university is likely to tie up with Patna based Buddha Dental College for regular dental check-up camps on the university and college campuses. “The university may also launch a mobile dental check-up van in collaboration with the Buddha Dental College to serve its staff and students,” he said.
The university has already launched an awareness programme among students to avoid plastic and polythene bags on the campus. The national service scheme (NSS) volunteers have been raised in each college to ensure total plastic and polythene bags ban on the college campus. The university has sought assistance and cooperation from Munger Rotary Club, Red Cross Society, IMA branch and Bharat Vikas Parishad for its initiative to keep university and college campus not only clean but also in better hygiene conditions, the VC said.
Meanwhile, taking a leaf from the new UGC guidelines, the university has directed its constituent colleges to hold parent-teacher meet (PTM) latest by September 30. “Parents or guardians must be told that the names of their wards would be struck off if they failed to maintain monthly 75% attendance,” the VC said.
Tightening a noose around teachers, the VC said the university has also decided to randomly check their presence in the classrooms through ‘WhatsApp’. Two teachers of a particular women’s college in Munger were seriously warned during a random check on Saturday, he said.
