PATNA: Amid expression of serious concern over the fast deteriorating crime scene in the state made by Union minister Upendra Kushwaha, state Congress president Madan Mohan Jha on Monday sought the intervention of governor Lalji Tandon as the government had lost its “iqbal” (will) to run the state.
“The state’s governor should take immediate cognisance of the deteriorating law and order situation in the state,” Jha said after the brutal murder of former Muzaffarpur mayor Samir Kumar on Sunday evening.
Two bike-borne criminals sprayed bullets from AK-47 assault rifle, killing Samir and his driver in the bust town area.
“It has become necessary because the state police machinery has become inactive,” Jha said, adding that the AK-47 rifles were easily available to the criminals in the state.
Kushwaha, whose Rashtriya Lok Samata Party (RLSP) is an NDA partner, also tweeted, “Hey Bhagwan, kya ho raha hai (O God, what is happening)?” On Monday, when asked for his reaction on the perceptible increase in criminal incidents, Kushwaha said he had already expressed his feelings through his tweet.
Jha, Kushwaha, former Union minister and RJD senior leader Raghuvansh Prasad Singh as well as state CPI secretary Satya Narayan Singh expressed their concern in the backdrop of former Muzaffarpur mayor’s murder, besides the killings at regular intervals in other big and small towns, including Patna.
Raghuvansh alleged that the criminals had more AK-47 rifles than the state police force. “The government is engaged in publicity drive and the state police were engaged merely in matters related to ‘daroo-baloo’ (liquor and sand) business. The government does not tire of claiming that the rule of law and governance prevail in the state,” Singh said.

Jha and Singh also condemned the government for failing to control crime and the fast deterioration in the law and order situation in the state. They, along with the state CPI secretary, pointed out that it had put big question mark on the ‘iqbal’ of the government and also to its commitment to ‘shusashan’ (good governance), besides mentioning that the criminals had started using the AK-47 rifles frequently again.
“The people of the state are losing faith in the Nitish government. They are also reeling under price rise, stupendous increase in the prices of petrol, diesel and liquefied petroleum gas. However, the NDA leaders are engaged in political calculations how to win all the 40 parliamentary seats in the state,” Jha said.
