PATNA: A vigilance investigation bureau team arrested road construction department (RCD) executive engineer Suresh Prasad Singh (56) while allegedly accepting Rs14 lakh as bribe from contractor Akhilesh Kumar Jaiswal on Saturday morning. The trap amount is one of the biggest in recent past.
The team, led by DSP Gopal Paswan, also arrested Singh's cashier Shashi Bhushan Kumar from the officer's house for his alleged involvement in accepting the bribe.

Later, more vigilance sleuths, led by ASPs Rajesh Kumar and Manoj Kumar and two more DSP rank officers, conducted raid at Singh's residence in West Patel Nagar under the Shastri Nagar police station area in Patna and recovered Rs 2.36 crore in cash kept in two suitcases and travel bags. The officials had to arrange a currency counting machine to ascertain the amount seized.
"Deeds of five flats and one private residence in Patna, one flat in Noida, agreement papers for 14 kattha land at Bihta and 26 policy papers of life insurance were recovered from his three-storey private bungalow worth rupees several crores," vigilance sources said.
