PATNA: The country’s first
handloom mall is likely to be set up at
Rajendra Nagar soon. Handloom weavers from all over will get a common platform to sell and promote their products.
Sources in the state industries department claimed that the proposed handloom mall, spread over an area of 8,966 square metres, would be built utilizing funds to the tune of Rs 46.43 crore.
“The four-storey mall will be designed keeping in mind the requirements of weavers.
The Infrastructure Development Authority (IDA), a unit of the industries department, has prepared a detailed project report for the mall,” a source said, adding handloom experts would get individual shops in the mall.
Chandan Sharma, executive engineer at IDA, told this newspaper on Monday that construction of the mall was likely to begin after the
Lok Sabha election.
Bihar State Handloom Weavers Cooperative Union Limited president Md Naquib Ahmad said the mall would help boost the handloom business in the state.
