Pawan, Aakriti among toppers in Guwahati zone
PATNA: Pawan Kumar and Aakriti of Patna were among the toppers of Guwahati zone in the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced 2019. The results were announced on Friday. Altogether 1,822 students qualified from Guwahati zone.
Pawan ranked 259th and stood third while Aakriti topped among the girls with AIR 817th in Guwahati zone, which covers Bihar, West Bengal and northeast states.
Among the five toppers of Guwahati zone, Samastipur boy Vivek Choudhary got 474th rank and secured fourth position and Aman Kumar from Nawada got fifth position with 525th rank.
“I wanted to be an engineer since my childhood days. My father always motivated me to set an example for my siblings as I’m the eldest one. Qualifying this exam is the first step of realizing my father’s dream,” Pawan told this newspaper. He scored 247 out of 372, including 91 in physics, 92 in chemistry and 64 in mathematics. “Mathematics was little difficult compared to other subjects. However, I tried my best and I’m very happy with the results,” he said. Pawan secured AIR 24th in OBC category.
Pawan’s father Raj Kumar runs a bakery shop at Karbighaiya and his mother Manju Devi is a homemaker. Pawan wants to pursue computer science in IIT Bombay. “I want to secure a good job in any multinational company,” he said.
Pawan had scored 94.8% in Class XII board exam this year from School of Creative Learning, Danapur. He also attended coaching classes. “I devoted five hours to self-study,” he added.
Aakriti wishes to get admission either in IIT Kanpur or Bombay. “I want to pursue my career in artificial intelligence and do research in this field. I like coding and programming,” she told this newspaper.
Born to Brijesh Kumar (senior intelligence officer in Directorate General of GST Intelligence) and homemaker Lily Prasad, Aakriti devoted seven hours to self-study. “I maintained a balance while preparing for the Board as well as JEE exams,” she said.

She had scored 96.4 in Class XII from Krishna Public School, Neora and got 10 CGPA in Class X from Notre Dame Academy. Her brother Apoorv Kumar is already in IIT Guwahati. Aakriti scored 212, including 88 in physics, 75 in chemistry and 49 in mathematics.
Total 38,705 students, including 5,356 girls, cleared JEE Advanced. Altogether 15,566 candidates from general category and 3,636 from economically weaker sections will go for counselling. Altogether 7,651 qualified in OBC category, 8758 in SC and 3,094 in ST categories.
Only 15 of the 21 students of Abhyanand Super 30 and 18 of Anand Super 30 qualified the JEE Advanced.
According to sources, all India third rank holder Archit Bubna belongs to Hajipur. He scored 335 out of 372 marks and secured second position in Delhi zone.
“Total 1,822 candidates from Guwahati zone qualified the exam. Of which, two finished in top 100 and 4 among top 500 successful candidates,” Mukat Sharma, professor at IIT Roorkee, told this newspaper.
