PG courses to start at AIIMS-Patna next month
The first round of counselling for the first PG batch has already been completed and the second round will start after a week
PATNA: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Patna will start classes for postgraduate courses from January next year. The standing academic committee of AIIMS-Patna had earlier recommended introduction of PG courses at the hospital after an assessment by faculties of AIIMS-New Delhi this year.
The postgraduate courses at AIIMS-Patna, which were scheduled to start from July this year, got delayed due to lack of infrastructure and teachers.

According to parameters prescribed by AIIMS-New Delhi, there should be senior and junior professors in each department where PG course is run. The five other new AIIMS units at Jodhpur, Rishikesh, Bhopal, Raipur and Bhubaneswar have already started running postgraduate courses.
There are altogether 78 sanctioned PG seats in AIIMS-Patna. Of them, 46 seats will be filled in January and the remaining in May or June next year. AIIMS-Patna had started MBBS courses in 2012 and BSC nursing course in 2013.
“The PG courses will be started in 15 departments, including anaesthesia, bio-chemistry, medicine, surgery, pharmacology, pathology and paediatrics. We have recruited professors and additional professors in each department to run the PG courses,” said AIIMS-Patna dean Dr P P Gupta.
The PG students will undergo a three-year practical training in a particular medical field apart from attending topic-based classes. They will also present their theses before the PG committee of the hospital.
