PATNA: A fight over re-encroaching parts of a road for setting up stalls led to the killing of a man with criminal antecedents near Churi Market under the Kadamkuan police station area in the city on Saturday night, police said on Sunday. Encroachments were removed from the road by the district administration during a recent drive.
The man, Deepak Sahni (32), was shot by four criminals in front of a shop owned by his sister at Churi Market around 8pm.
Sahni succumbed to his injuries at Patna Medical College and Hospital. Police said Sahni was shot thrice in his abdomen and two empty cartridges were recovered from the spot.
The locals blocked Nala Road for several hours on Sunday, demanding arrest of killers and immediate financial assistance to the next of the kin of Sahni.
“Deepak and his associates were fighting with their rival group for re-encroaching parts of a road near the market for setting up shops. The murder seems to be the fallout of the same dispute,” Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said.
Police have arrested Deepak Kumar, one of the accused, in connection with the murder. The three other accused have been identified as Bhawani alias Pandit, Rahul Kumar and Abhishek Kumar.
“Bhawnai and Rahul probably boarded a Mokama-bound train after Sahni’s killing,” the SSP said, adding raids were on to arrest the accused. Sahni’s sister Dolly Kumari had lodged an FIR in connection with the case against four criminals on Saturday night.
