BEGUSARAI: In a rare case of exemplary courage, a man with gunshot injuries first dropped his daughter at her Intermediate examination centre and then got himself admitted to a private hospital in Begusarai district on Wednesday.
According to Damini Kumari (18), six criminals on two motorbikes intercepted her father Ram Kripal Singh, a former mukhiya of Birpur east panchayat, near Lasrahi village on Birpur-Begusarai road under the Birpur police station when he was taking her to the examination centre on a bike in the morning.
“The criminals first tried to tie his hands. When I opposed, they pumped two bullets into his chest at a very close range and fled on their bikes,” Damini said. “I asked my father to stop and wait for some help, but he drove his bike at least 7km to drop me at the examination centre before visiting a private nursing home,” she added.
Singh (45) is a native of Pakri village under Birpur east panchayat. Damini’s examination centre is at J K High School near Begusarai railway station.
Begusarai SP Awakash Kumar said, “The victim is undergoing treatment and cannot talk. Once, he regains consciousness, police would record his statement. Preliminary investigations indicate old enmity as the reason behind the incident. A few suspects have been identified.”
