PATNA: City schools and colleges have ushered in the
Christmas spirit. Decorated campuses reverberate with carols and songs like ‘
Jingle Bells’, ‘Joy to the World’, ‘Jesus Born Today’ and ‘
O Holy Night’ being practised by the students for their performances.
Abha Choudhary, a senior teacher at Notre Dame Academy, said, “Christmas is celebrated with lots of fervour in our school. Keeping with the Christmas spirit, the school organised cultural events comprising songs, dance and a play on the birth of Jesus Christ.
The entire school is decorated with Christmas lights, Xmas trees, Santa and frills.” The school will celebrate Christmas on December 22.
Fr Christu Savarirajan, principal of St Xavier’s High School, said not only the students but the teachers also participate in the cultural events during Christmas celebrations. “Students decorate each and every classroom and present skit, song and dance based on Christmas. The school will celebrate Christmas on December 21,” he said.
Shreyas Singh, a Class VIII student of St Michael’s High School, said he got several free periods for the Christmas practice and is enjoying a lot with his classmates. A Class V student of Loyola High School, Siddhant Seth is also busy with the practice. “Christmas is always a big affair in our school and we take part in carol singing. The Santa gives chocolates and cake to us,” he said.
The Christmas celebration in other schools and colleges would also be held between December 20 and December 24.
Few colleges organised weeklong events to celebrate Christmas. They included Patna Women’s College (PWC) and St Xavier’s College. At PWC, students will participate in carol, dance and play contest. The college also celebrates Christmas
Milan with transgenders and rickshaw pullers.
