PATNA: Patna University (PU) is likely to request the district administration to exempt the university teachers from election duties with a view to ensuring the smooth conduct of the ongoing university examinations.
PU vice-chancellor Rash Bihari Prasad Singh assured this to a delegation of Patna University Teachers’ Association (PUTA) which met him on Wednesday. The delegation, which was led by PUTA president Randhir Kumar Singh and general secretary Abhay Kumar, requested the VC to get the university teachers exempted from poll duties.
The delegation informed the VC that the university has been functioning with only 40% of the sanctioned strength of teachers and if all of them are assigned election duties, it would be impossible to conduct the examinations.
It referred to the letter of the chief election commissioner of India regarding exemption of college and university teachers from election duties.
The delegation also cited the recent letter of the chief secretary of Uttar Pradesh written to all the district magistrates of UP regarding exemption of university teachers and non-teaching staff from election duties with a view to ensuring timely conduct of ongoing university examinations.
