Pondicherry University library bags ProQuest’s Shining Star award

PUDUCHERRY: ProQuest, a global information-content and technology company specialising in information storage on microfilms and microfiche, conferred the Shining Star award on Pondicherry University library, recognising its outstanding support and collaboration with the company.
Pondicherry University librarian R Samyuktha received the award during the national library summit convened by ProQuest in Bengaluru on October 5, said a release issued on Thursday.

ProQuest directors from Japan, Australia, the UK, the US and India attended the summit, which attracted more than 100 library and information professionals.
The university library, which has been proactive in facilitating research activities and bridging the publishers and the researchers, has scaled up its h-index from 32 to 78 and citation index from 6 to 9.3 in the last seven years.
H-index, or Hirsch index, is a metric to measure the quality and quantity of research output while citation index is the impact factor, which is arrived by the total number of citations divided by the total number of publications.
The Union human resource development ministry and the UGC extend funds for research to an institution based on the h index and citation index.
Pondicherry University vice-chancellor Gurmeet Singh lauded the library staff members for bagging the honours.
Established in 1938, ProQuest empowers research and learning through their products to search and access journals, databases and e-books.
