PUNE: States are displaying progress in
water management, but the overall performance remains well below what is required to adequately tackle India's
water challenge, Niti Aayog said on Friday as it released a ranking of states and Union Territories (UTs) vis-a-vis their water
management practices. Gujarat retained its top position and Delhi figured at the bottom of the new ranking.
Maharashtra has been ranked ninth. 80% of the states assessed have improved their water management scores but 16 of the 27 states fall in the low-performing category.
