10 killed as SUV collides with truck in Chhattisgarh

In a heart wrenching incident, 10 members of a family died while one kid sustained serious injuries when a speeding truck collided with their vehicle near Somni Police Station in Rajnandgaon district in Chhattisgarh on Sunday morning.

RAIPUR: In a heart wrenching incident, 10 members of a family died while one kid sustained serious injuries when a speeding truck collided with their vehicle near Somni Police Station in Rajnandgaon district in Chhattisgarh on Sunday morning.
Police said the incident happened around 7am near a Petrol Pump in Somni Police Station area when the family was returning to their hometown Bhilai after visiting the Maa Bamleshwari Devi in Dongargarh district.
Their car collided head on with a speeding truck coming from the opposite side in which 4 women and 5 men of a family died on the spot while one seriously injured man died at the hospital during treatment.
Only one child of the family survived but sustained serious injuries. He is being treated at Rajnandgaon Medical College. A police team reached on the spot after receiving information about the incident from the locals and sent bodies for postmortem. Police has registered a case and begun investigation.
Police says the collision was so strong that the car was totally destroyed in the accident which is being removed from the road with the help of a crane,
The agitated relatives of the deceased, who were travelling in another car started protest on the road due to which the highway road was blocked for about an hour. Later the police team got the situation under control.
On receiving the information about the road accident, District Collector Bhim Singh immediately visited Rajnandgaon Medical College where he inquired about the incident and also met the injured child and the relatives.
Chief Minister Raman Singh has expressed grief over the demise of 10 members of a family in the road accident.
