RAIPUR: Police on Wednesday
busted a
World Cup betting racket and
arrested 16 people
in Raipur.
Rs3 lakh was recovered from them. Police had received a tip-off that a gambling racket was underway in a house in Dandania locality in the city.
The accused were identified as Parmanand Verma, Hemlal Yadav, Sukhram Nair, Sanju Yadav, Sanju Das, Dinesh Yadav, Golu Soni, Dinesh Thakur, Sumiran, Sanjay Dewanagn, Anurag Tiwari, Harsh, Anil, Alok Sahu, Raju and Tarachand Mishra.
A case under Sections of Gambling Act has been registered and further investigation is underway. In another bust, police arrested three persons from Mahaveer Nagar for betting on the World Cup matches on Tuesday.
The accused were working as satta bookies and have been identified as Satish Valyani (54), Kartaar Tolwani (55) and Nitin Kumar (26) — all residents of Raipur. Police have also seized Rs24,000 in cash and betting records worth Rs50 lakh apart five mobile phones, one laptop, one pen-drive
