RAIPUR: Bilaspur native Varnit Negi made the state proud after he secured the 13th rank in UPSC after the final examination results were declared on Friday.
The 27-year-old is currently employed as assistant security commissioner at Railway Protection Force (RPF). He had earlier secured 504th rank in 2017; and in his third attempt now, he managed to secure all-India ranking 13.
Negi is an alumnus of DAV school, Basant Vihar in Bilaspur.
He did schooling till class seven in Jashpur after which he enrolled in high school at Kota.
Negi holds a degree in civil engineering from National Institute of Technology (NIT) Surathkal in Karnataka. After campus selection, he worked at Power Grid Corporation of India for one-and-half years at Malerkotla in Punjab, Gurugram in Haryana and Raipur till 2016.
In March 2016, he resigned from the power corporation and went to Delhi to prepare for civil services examination.
In his first attempt of UPSC, Negi cleared the prelims in 2016 but could not clear the Mains. After this he secured 504th rank in 2017, based on which he was allocated job in RPF. And following consistent efforts, he went on to secure the 13th rank in his third attempt of UPSC.
Talking about his preparation for competitive exams, Negi said, "Self-belief is key to success, where balance of smart and hard work play an important role. Rest of it is the blessing and support of my parents who helped me succeed."

"Cadre will be allotted based on the vacancies but my first preference is definitely Chhattisgarh. However, I do not have any problem in relocating to any part of India for rendering services as a public servant. Due to my experience of studying and working at different towns and cities, I find it easy to fit into new environment," Nego added.
The 27-year-old's father Devendra Singh Negi is a principal at government high school. Devendra Singh originally comes from Uttarakhand and shifted to Chhattisgarh in the late eighties. While, his mother Seema Negi is a professor at Government JMP College at Takhatpur, his brother Ankit Negi is assistant commandant in Border Security Force (BSF).
