Chhattisgarh battles with rapid rise in cases as migrants enter in

RAIPUR: After initial success of keeping virus under control, Chhattisgarh is now batting with a sudden spurt in corona cases. The number spiked after migrant labourers started coming in and nearly 12-15 cases were being reported every day since Sunday.
13 more tested positive on Thursday, taking the state's count to 128, as per the health bulletin.
While active cases in the state stand at 69 and Covid death has been reported in Chhattisgarh so far.
Of these 13, four cases are from Rajnandgaon, three from Janjgir-Champa, two from Bilaspur and one each from Kanker, Sarguja, Balod and Raipur. One patient from Raipur of Saddu area was in quarantine from last two days, when he self-approached for covid-19 testing as he was suffering from cough, cold and fever from very long.
"The patient from Raipur does not have any travel history and we have initiated his contact tracing to find out his source of virus," said Dr Akhilesh Tripathi, Deputy Health Director.
After the first case of corna virus reported from Kanker district on Thursday, the administration has sealed Bhanupratappur town.
In a similar development, the state health department has decided not to implement Indian Council Of Medical Research's latest guideline, issued on Wednesday, that said Covid-19 patients identified as moderate cases and pre-symptomatic, mild and very mild cases need not undergo RT-PCR tests before being discharged and should be discharged without any test.
Explaining the reason for not implementing in Chhattisgarh, the health official Dr Tripathi said, "We don't want to take any risk and want to be double sure before discharging any covid-19 patient or it may trigger third stage of community transmission. The state health department continues to discharge patients after confirming consecutive two negative swab tests of the patient, through RT-PCR method.
The Baghel government had managed to contain the virus to a few clusters and the number of active Covid patients was down to single digit since last, when the migrants started streaming back and the count soared.
The state is bracing for a major challenge as more than two lakh migrant workers are likely to return from many states in the next few days.
For migrant labourers, there are separate 17,907 quarantine centres, which has capacity to accommodate 6,44,724 suspects and presently there are 1,31,814 such labourers are quarantined in these centres.
