Chhattisgarh: Congress wins five mayoral posts, Aijaz Dhebar elected Raipur mayor

Congress has won elections to the post of mayor in five municipal corporations of Raipur, Durg, Dhamtari, Chirmiri and Raigarh.

RAIPUR: Congress has won elections to the post of mayor in five municipal corporations of Raipur, Durg, Dhamtari, Chirmiri and Raigarh.
In state capital Raipur, Congress nominee Aijaz Dhebar won the mayor's elections with independent corporators also extending support to his candidature.
Aijaz Dhebar has won the mayor's election securing 41 votes, defeating Mrityunjay Dubey, who secured 29 votes in the 70 member Raipur Municipal Corporation.
Outgoing mayor Pramod Dubey has been elected as Speaker of RMC. CM Bhupesh Baghel tweeted congratulating Ajaz Dhebar on his election as mayor.
In Chirmiri Corporation, the Congress candidate Kanchan Jaiswal was elected unopposed Mayor. Gayatri Birha was also elected unopposed speaker of Chirmiri Corporation. For the first time, Congress wrested the mayor's post in Dhamtari with Vijay Dewangan winning the seat by security 22 votes out of total 40. Anurag Masih has been elected speaker of Dhamtari Corporation. In Durg, Congress candidate Dheeraj Bakliwal won the mayor's election by securing 40 out of total 60 votes. In Raigarh, Janaki Katju of Congress won the mayoral election, winning support of independents.
