RAIPUR: Culture Minister Amarjeet Bhagat took stock of initiatives of his department and asked officials to set up a cell of Film Development Corporation in the Directorate of Culture and Archeology.
Bhagat chaired a departmental meeting held recently at his residence here. He directed the officers to appoint an officer in-charge for the cell, and also make arrangements for necessary equipment, including computers for the proposed cell.
The initiatives are aimed at giving a leg-up to local budding artistes, said sources.
A film city will be set-up in an area of about 300 acres near Purkhouti Muktangan in Nava Raipur, Atal Nagar. The film policy is almost ready and under review, the minister is said to have told officials. The minister also called for providing facilities required for film-makers from other states. Skill development schemes can be linked to impart local artistes training in singing, drama, acting, light, sound and camera - all essential for film production. Khairagarh University and Kamala Devi Sangit Mahavidyalaya, Raipur will collaborate in this effort, the minister said.
To create a market for Chhattisgarhi films, an arrangement should be made for showing films in districts that do not have cinema houses, Bhagat told officials. The minister also called for a proposal to include Chhattisgarh's official song 'Arpa Pairi Ke Dhar' in primary school textbooks.
Directing the officials to start preparations for the Mainpat Festival, Bhagat said a committee should be constituted to the fix the honorarium for local artistes, and some of them will be on board the panel.
Bhagat also reviewed the departmental budget and several ongoing works. Culture Department secretary Anbalagan P, commissioner Anil Kumar Sahu and senior officials were present in the meeting.
