Chhattisgarh reports first Covid-19 death of a factory worker with no travel history

RAIPUR: Chhattisgarh registered its first Covid-19 death on Friday with a 35-year-old person succumbing to novel coronavirus while undergoing treatment at a private hospital. After state’s first case reported on March 18, 415 people have been tested positive across the state and 100 patients were discharged after treatment.
As per state health official, the deceased was an unskilled worker, hailed from Birgaon - a part of Raipur urban agglomeration and use to work in an industry unit located at Urla Industrial area in Raipur.

Confirming the Covid death, health minister TS Singh Deo tweeted, “Sadly Chhattisgarh registers it’s first COVID death. A patient admitted to a private hospital developed ILI symptoms and his sample was sent to AIIMS Raipur for testing. The test has come out positive in the morning but by then unfortunately the patient had passed away.”
The 35-year-old was admitted in a private hospital on Tuesday after he experienced fever and avail the treatment of pneumonia and chest related problems, due to which he was experiencing difficulty in breathing.
On seeing the symptoms of lungs infection, high grade fever and difficulty in breathing, the doctors of private hospital sent the patient’s swab sample for Covid -19 testing on Thursday in All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). And his sample was confirmed Covid positive after he was succumbed on the same on Friday evening, added health official.
“The deceased had no travel history and still we are trying to ascertain his track record to find out his source of contracting with virus,” said Deputy Health Director Dr Akhilesh Tripathi.

State health officials said that the swab samples of doctors and nursing staff engaged in private hospital’s isolation ward will be tested for Covid virus and sent for isolation for 14 days.
Earlier, a death of a migrant labourer was reported from Chiroda in Durg-Bhilai district on Sunday. Reportedly, migrant labourer was from West Bengal and died on May 24 due to coronavirus disease (Covid-19) after his swab samples tested positive on Wednesday.
The bus carrying the migrant labourer was bound for West Bengal from Mumbai and had to be halted in Durg, when the labourer experienced uneasiness and died after reaching Durg. Later his swab sample was collected and confirmed Covid positive on Wednesday.
