RAIPUR: As corona scare looms large, states and countries announced lockdown. The travel bans and border seals have left a 29-year-old research scholar from Chhattisgarh stranded in Italy.
Talking to TOI over phone call on Wednesday, Henu Kumar Verma (29), a research scholar in Marie curie fellow IEOS -CNR Naples, said that the situation is so serious that he has locked himself in the room since a month.
And now he is almost the out of ration.
“I want to return home — my Chhattisgarh. In current situation it seems impossible though. I stay around 500km away from the airport at Rome city. All the public transportations cabs, taxis and trains are not operating. Even flight to India has also been suspended till April 30.”
Italy, despite having second best medical infrastructure in the world, has been affected badly, the Durg scholar said.
Sharing the details, he said that his place — Avellino town in southern Italy, has reported over 200 positive cases.
The situation is so bad that the graveyards here are falling short and the bodies are being buried, on city outskirts, he added.
He said that COVID-19 is a crisis and and whatever is happening in Italy should not happen anywhere. “I urge everyone in India to stay at home and fight corona.”
There are around 15-20 research scholars across the India and around 50 families from Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Sindh province in the entire Italy, where death toll due to COVID-19 is increasing day-by-day.
