RAIPUR: A major fire broke out in SAIL-run
Bhilai Steel Plant on Friday morning in its coke oven and chemicals department, though there was no casualty reported.
"A fire was reported at Tar Distillation Unit of
SAIL’s Bhilai Steel Plant in its Coke Ovens and Coal Chemicals (CO&CC) Department at 8.30 am this morning. Immediately, the fire tenders were rushed to the site and the blaze was controlled with greatest promptitude," said a statement issued by Steel Authority of India Limited.
It further stated that there has been no loss of life or any injury to any of the persons working in or around the site.
The reason for the fire is being probed into, the statement said, adding that there has not been any disruption in the plant’s normal operation.
The Bhilai Steel Plant had recently witnessed an accident on April 6 when eight workers were injured after a part of roof of a blast furnace blew up.
This has caused patchy burn injury to eight persons working around the furnace area at that time.
While a major incident took place in October last year killing over 11 persons after a gas pipeline of coke over
battery complex exploded.
