RAIPUR: Raipur Smart City Limited's newly launched Integrated Traffic Management System (ITMS) has already caught up with 86 traffic offenders in just 36 hours.
The ambitious traffic surveillance project, which is worth Rs 157.70 crore, was inaugurated on Wednesday late night and has kept an eye on traffic offenders ever since. The high-resolution surveillance cameras have so far scanned number plates of 86 commuters who broke traffic signals on Thursday.

As per a traffic department official, around eight people have paid the fine and remaining traffic violators have been directed to pay the penalty in next seven days.
The traffic police are monitoring the traffic signals from the control room called Daksh located at Jaistambh Chowk.
Under ITMS project, 372 high-resolution CCTV surveillance cameras have been installed at 80 locations covering 40 roundabouts. Moreover, cameras capturing number plates in the dark have been installed at 23 locations, while the special cameras for speed violation have been installed at five places. Besides, unique cameras to detect other traffic violations have been installed at 10 places to improve the city's traffic system.

Likewise, there will be 30 hand-held challan machines for immediate action against traffic violators. A system has been installed at 45 places for message signboard and further 16 locations in the city will get public addresses. Emergency call box system along with smart poles has also been installed at 83 locations wherein people can contact for police assistance immediately.
All necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the smooth operation of the traffic and to provide security to the citizens, officials said adding that the number of cameras will be increased as per requirement. ITMS will be able to get information on traffic violations, real time traffic conditions, easy access to emergency vehicles, information about traffic diversion, accident etc.
As per Raipur Smart City official, the smart poles will have free Wi-Fi facility incorporated in them. There will also be a public address system wherein citizens will be informed about the updated status of the city's environmental standards. Besides, information about emergency information such as accidents, fire, weather conditions and awareness programs will be available through the command centre.
