Jagar 2019: Ten-day handloom festival comes to a close
The festival aimed to promote Chhattisgarh handicrafts
RAIPUR: In a bid to promote handicraft products and boost the handicrafts sector in state, a ten-day exhibition 'Jagar 2019' was organized by the Chhattisgarh Handicraft Development Board (CHDB) in Raipur which concluded on Monday.
JL Maravi, an official from CHDB, informed that sale of more than Rs1.3 crore was witnessed in the 10-day long which began on February 23 in Raipur's Chhattisgarh Haat. Maravi added that craftsmen from Chhattisgarh managed to sell products worth about Rs34.45 lakhs while those from other states generated sales worth Rs68.33 lakhs.
Meanwhile, Chhattisgarh Gramudyog minister Guru Rudra Kumar made an announcement to extend the duration of the fair from 10 days to 15 days next year.
The minister said that many steps have been taken in the interest of the craftsmen of the state and necessary appropriate steps would be taken in future to resolve their issues.
This year's fair witnessed strong attendance from enthusiastic shoppers from the state capital and nearby areas. As many as 60 craftsmen from Chhattisgarh and about 110 craftsmen from different states of the country participated in the exhibition-cum-sale event.
Stalls of craftsmen from Maharashtra, West Bengal, Rajasthan, New Delhi, Punjab, Telangana, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu Kashmir captivated the visitors in the exhibition. Special artefacts included Banarasi saris, Chikankari kurtis and dresses from UP, Chanderi and Maheshwari saris from Madhya Pradesh, Kashmiri pashmina shawls and stoles, and jute work handicrafts products of West Bengal.
Besides, a huge collection of art, metalware, carpets, Rajasthani bangles, terracotta, wooden crafts, leather articles, handmade jewellery, and hand printed textile were also available.
Managing director of CHBD Bipin Manjhi along with other officials from the board distributed participation certificates to the craftsmen from across the country.
