Maoist couple carrying Rs 6 lakh bounty surrender in Jagdalpur

RAIPUR: Four Maoists were arrested on Friday from Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh. While three cadres were apprehended from Farspal police station area, another one was held in Aranpur police station limits. In addition, a Maoist couple carrying cash reward of Rs six lakh each surrendered in Jagdalpur.
Acting on a specific input about the presence of some suspects at Kaccheghat on Faraspal-Bhairamgarh road, a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG) and local police raided the place and rounded up the trio, identified as Budhram alias Chhotu Oyam (22), Oyam Raju (35) and Punem Sukhram (28).

Budhram and Raju were active as Local Guerrilla Squad (LGS) member and Janmilitia Commander respectively and had a bounty of Rs 1 lakh each.
The duo were allegedly involved in various attack on police teams, damaging railway tracks and planting bombs in the area.
Sukhram was active as a member of Dandakaranya Adivasi Kisan Majdoor Sangthan (DAKMS- a frontal outfit of Maoists) and allegedly tasked with arranging meetings of Naxals, conducting recce for them, damaging public property, putting up pamphlets, posters and banners, police added.
In a separate operation, the rebel identified as Nanda Kunjam (25), a Maoists' Local Organisation Squad (LOS) member, was arrested from the forest near Potali village. Kunjam was also carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head.

Meanwhile, a Maoist couple carrying cash reward of Rs six lakh each on their heads surrendered in Jagdalpur, the divisional headquarters of tribal Bastar region. Sonaru Poyam and his wife Manju Mandavi surrendered before Inspector General of Police (Bastar range) Vivekanand Sinha in Jagdalpur, the headquarters of Bastar district.
The couple was active as area committee members in neighbouring Odisha. Both were involved in attacks on police teams including an incident which claimed life of a cop, leaving seven, planting IEDs and other incidents between the year 2009 to 2019.
The surrendered couple expressed disappointment with the Maoist ideology and lifestyle. He also said that he was impressed by the surrender and rehabilitation policy of the state government.
