RAIPUR: Ahead of Independence Day, Raipur's Swami Vivekananda Airport has instilled some special Chhattisgarh flavour. To foster patriotic fervour among flyers on August 15, Chhattisgarh-themed decorations have taken over the premises of Raipur airport.
Raipur airport director Rakesh R Sahay told TOI, "This year, traditional decorations will give a Chhattisgarhi feel to travellers at the airport.
The set-up was completed on Saturday and will be put on display for the next 10 days."
As a part of the theme-based decorations, the Chhattisgarhi feel begins at the entrance itself where a three-dimensional L-shaped cubical pillar covered by sacks on all the four sides has been placed. It is decked with cut-outs of Chhattisgarhi motifs. Besides, a tribal corner has also been set-up at the entrance where cut-outs of major tribes of Chhattisgarh including Muria, Gond, Halba, Dhurvaa and Urao have been put up.
A visitor's gallery has also been made where portraits of freedom fighters of Chhattisgarh along with their description are displayed. A tricolour selfie point, which reads 'Mor Airport' (my airport), has also set-up. Models of famous tourist places of Chhattisgarh including Bhoramdev temple, Sirpur, Danteshwari temple, Rajim Lochan temple and Kutumsar caves have been put on display along with placards showing complete history of these places.
Besides, a replica of famous ethnic food restaurant Gadh Kalewa has also been made here. All of Chhattisgarh's ethnic food including fhara, chosela, cheela, urad vada, anarsa and pidiya are being served here. There is also a selfie-corner which displays Chhattisgarh's handloom and handicrafts including kosa silk, bamboo art, clay art, cowrie art and jute art. The ticketing area also has a display that depicts Pola, one of the major festivals celebrated in Chhattisgarh. Come Monday, the entire terminal building will be illuminated as well.

Airport director Sahay said that flag-hoisting ceremony on Independence Day will be organised in the morning. After that, top-performing employees of airport and other agencies will be felicitated. There will also be a programme by renowned Pandwani singer from Chhattisgarh Padma Vibhushan Teejan Bai. Later, two fashion shows with Chhattisgarh-themed costumes will be organised in the evening.
