Raipur: Auto driver gets life term for minor's rape

A fast track court in Raipur has sentenced life imprisonment to an auto-rickshaw driver for raping a minor girl. Besides, it has also announced compensation of Rs four lakh to the rape survivor.

RAIPUR: A fast track court in Raipur has sentenced life imprisonment to an auto-rickshaw driver for raping a minor girl. Besides, it has also announced compensation of Rs four lakh to the rape survivor.
The court of additional district and sessions Judge of FTC Pooja Jaiswal has found Deva Yadav (30), a resident of Raipur, guilty of raping a 15-year-old girl and pronounced life imprisonment.
Moreover, the court has also announced 'Appropriate Compensation' to the tune of Rs4 lakh to the rape survivor, special public prosecutor Tarachand Kosle told TOI.
This is the first time in history of Raipur that a court has fixed such an amount under Victim Compensation Scheme-2018, he claimed.The court has referred the matter to District Legal Service Authority (DLSA), Raipur under Victim Compensation Scheme-2018, added SPP Kosle.
Koslein informed that the FTC has also imposed a fine of Rs5000 on Deva.
The court has also convicted Motiram Sahu (37), a resident of Doma village of Raipur district of raping the minor together with Deva and has sentenced five years rigorous imprisonment (RI), in addition with Rs2000 fine. On 30 November 2017, after a quarrel with her mother over petty issue, the minor girl left the house to meet a relative living in adjacent district.
While the minor girl was looking for an auto-rickshaw at Lodhipara Chowk in Raipur, auto-driver Deva picked her and took her to an isolated place. After a while, Deva's friend Motiram also reached the spot and the duo raped the minor girl. The girl managed to escape when he was busy on phone and took shelter in a house where she narrated the entire ordeal. Later, the family, which gave shelter to her, alerted the police following which a complaint was lodged. Police lodged the case against two persons under Sections 376 and 34 of IPC, and under relevant sections POCSO Act.
