RAIPUR: Robin Hood Army Raipur Chapter—working to combat hunger in the city—on Sunday distributed ration packs to the needy rural families in as many as five villages situated on the periphery of Raipur as a part of RHA’s unique project “#Mission5”.
Robin Hood Army has launched a country-wide #Mission5—the largest war against hunger this Independence Day—as a part of its fifth anniversary celebrations.
The target is to serve over 500 villages across India in five days i.e. from August 11 to August 15. In every city five villages have been selected to distribute ration packs. RHA Raipur conducted its #Mission5 programme here on Sunday.
RHA Raipur Chapter SPOC Nikita Goswami told TOI, “Over 25,000 people were served in five villages of Raipur district including Palod, Kotara Bhantha, Birbira, Mana Basti and Tandul during the ration packs distribution drive."
Speaking about #Mission5, Goswami said "Most people suffering from malnutrition are found in villages only because they couldn’t afford nutritious food everyday. The aim of this programme is to serve needy people in rural areas.”
She told that before selecting five villages for the purpose, the team of Robins conducted a survey to identify villages having shortage of food. An old-age home at Mana Basti was among our five targets as we have identified that senior people living there are in need of a support with food.
Goswami said that raw materials including rice, pulses, sugar, wheat flour, soya bean, cooking oil, salt, biscuits, and Maggie were collected for this drive. The collection of these items started about a week ago. We have distributed pamphlets and spread the message on social media platform for collection purpose. In addition, our team of Robins visited general stores, colonies, shops, and societies and told them about our initiative.

“We got a very good response from them. We have also got huge collection from police headquarters with immense support from special director general of police RK Vij, who not only contributed to our mission but also organized a special meeting in the headquarters”, she said.
RHA was started in Delhi in August 2014, by Neel Ghose. RHA in Raipur was started last year and the team currently has 60 active 'Robins' including professionals and students from colleges and schools. Thriving to make the city hunger free, the team of Robins provide 24-hour service collecting surplus food from restaurants and events like birthday parties, marriage ceremonies and distribute to less fortunate sections of the society.
