RAIPUR: Raipur Municipal Corporation (RMC) will seek an extension of time limit from Chhattisgarh high court to shift the garbage dumping and processing work at the newly allotted trench ground in Sakri.
Engineers said that the completion of landfill work at Sakri will be done by December this year. Until then, the solid waste management company contracted by the RMC will continue dumping the garbage at the Sarona dumping ground.
Sources said that following a public interest litigation (PIL), the high court directed RMC to shift the garbage dumping zone from Sarona trench ground to Sakri trench ground before June 1. This seemed unachievable for the civic body.
An RMC spokesperson said that the delay in shifting of the garbage dumping zone happened due to incompletion of work at Sakri landfill site. This work was undertaken by the solid waste management company Ramki group, which is currently collecting and dumping garbage at Sarona trench ground. The Ramki group is yet to develop processing plant to segregate wet and dry waste materials collected at the dump.
According to information, the Ramki group is being paid Rs675 per ton of garbage collected by the RMC. On disposing it scientifically, the solid waste management company will be paid Rs1275 after the processing plant is developed.
As per RMC's Swachh Bharat nodal official, the delay of development work at Sakri trench ground was due to financial issues with Ramki group.
The Ramki group was paid less amount than they should have been as they had given incomplete documentation and not presented citizen feedback as per RMC's contract.
