RAIPUR: To adopt energy efficient methods by the civic body, Raipur Smart City Limited has installed timers to regulate automatic switching of street lights in the city. According to Raipur Municipal Corporation, this feature has reduced the electricity bill from Rs70 lakh to Rs50 lakh per month for the civic body - nearly 15 per cent.
An RMC official said around 51,000 electricity poles in 70 wards of the city are timer regulated, which are installed by Energy Efficiency Services Limited.
These electricity poles are set up at 547 points which automatically regulate the LED lights at dusk and dawn.
Speaking to TOI, RMC executive engineer (electrical) Lokesh Chandravanshi said, "Since the installation of timers on electricity poles, the electricity bill has been reduced by 15 per cent. Earlier, it used to be Rs70 lakh monthly which has been reduced to around Rs54 lakh. There are 54, 000 electricity poles in 70 wards of the capital city and the installation in around 2,500 poles is under process."
The status of street lights is monitored at Raipur Smart city's command and control room 'Daksh'. This command and control room also pushes the status of non-functional street lights to the RMC.
