RAIPUR: The Indian Medical Council of India (MCI) has given its nod to medical colleges of Rajnandgaon and Jagdalpur to run courses for 100 MBBS seats each. The Raigarh medical college has also got the nod for MBBS course on 50 seats.
According to reports, after the Ambikapur Medical College failed to get the MCI approval for 2019-20 due to shortage of faculty and infrastructure, there were speculations that even Raigarh college will be deprived of the nod, as it also has shortage of faculties and infrastructure.

Now, the officials of the Department Medical Education (DME) are in process of appealing to the Union health ministry to reconsider the decision to approve 100 medical seats for Ambikapur Medical College.
Ambikapur Medical College has received 'zero year' twice in the past four years. This means the college is not entitled to offer MBBS course.
A week ago, Durg-based Chandulal Chandrakar medical college was declared 'zero year' by the MCI. Though this college has 150 MBBS seats, it has received 'zero year' for the second consecutive year. Due to zero year, these colleges have deprived 250 medical seats in the state, said DME official. Chhattisgarh has total 1100 MBBS seats, including 650 in six government-run medical colleges and 450 in three private colleges. The government-run Raipur Medical College and private colleges like Shri Shankaracharya Institute of Medical Sciences and Raipur Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) have received MCI approval to run MBBS course for 2019-20.
Two medical colleges of Bilaspur and Raigarh are still awaiting MCI nod for 150 and 50 medical seats respectively,.
