RAJKOT: Tourists had a pleasurable time in Diu which woke up to
rainfall that began at around 6am. By evening 6pm, the total rainfall recorded was nearly 127mm, leaving many
roads waterlogged.
The sea was very rough because of strong winds accompanied by rains and the Diu administration imposed prohibition on the tourists on going into sea at the famous Nagoa beach and other places.
Many schools in Diu declared holiday due to continuous downpour.
Besides Diu, extremely wet weather prevailed in coastal districts of Junagadh, Amreli, Gir-Somnath and Bhavnagar on Thursday. The highest rainfall was recorded in Kodinar town that got 115 mm in Gir-Somnath district.
In Barvala Bawal village of Vadia taluka in Amreli, a youth got swept away in strong currents of a flooded river. Police said the victim, identified as Jitesh Limba Pansuria, was crossing the causeway of the river when the incident occurred.
Junagadh city, Bhesan, Visavadar and Vanthli recorded 40 mm to 83mm rainfall. In Amreli, the heaviest rainfall was reported in Bagasara and Savarkundla (91mm each). Talaja in Bhavnagar was lashed by 100 mm rainfall while Jesar and Mahuva too got 73mm and 62 mm respectively.
In Rajkot district, Shapar-Veraval on the outskirts of the city witnessed a heavy downpour for nearly three hours. Two checkdams in Shapar-Veraval were overflowing. Other industrial areas like Lodhika and Kotda Sangani also experienced wet weather.
