56 Shramik Specials trains to arrive in Jharkhand
Ranchi: Jharkhand dispatched its first Shramik special train for Rajasthan from Hatia railway station here on Thursday evening. The train with 532 Rajasthan residents began its onward journey at 4 pm.
Ferrying mostly migrant labourers stranded in various parts of the state, the train is scheduled to reach Jaipur at 5:15pm on Friday, officials of the Ranchi railway division said.
As many as 44 special trains have ferried stranded migrants, students, patients and others from different states to Jharkhand since May 1.
As per records available with the state transport department, 52,000 passengers have been arrived in these trains till Thursday. Buses being sent to neighbouring states have also brought back 29,500 migrants so far.
Speaking to the TOI, transport secretary K Ravikumar said, “As many as 56 more Shramik special trains are scheduled to arrive in Jharkhand in the coming days. Every labourer who wants to return to their homes will be brought back.”
On Thursday morning, chief minister Hemant Soren put out a tweet detailing the number of stranded migrants, who have registered themselves to come back home. Soren’s tweet said 6.85 lakh people have registered in the official website. “The government is committed to bring everyone back in a phased manner,” Soren tweete.
The CM’s tweet said the most number of registrations are from Maharashtra (926), Gujarat (638), Rajasthan (580), Karnataka (481) and Tamil Nadu (434).
