RANCHI: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced on Friday that it will collect 25,000 signatures and send them to the Prime Minister's Office to draw attention to electricity and water woes faced by the residents in capital city.
The signature campaign will be carried out through 'mohalla sabhas' here.
The regional secretary of AAP, Rajan Kumar Singh, said, "We will gherao Raj Bhavan on June 12 to demand a resolution to the problems."
AAP's state unit also demanded that electricity companies be fined if there are any unscheduled power cuts.
Singh added, "On an average, every day there are about 4 to 5 hours of power cut in Ranchi."
The party, which withdrew its Jamshedpur candidate Dinesh Mahato after allegations of corruption surfaced against him, is planning to contest all 81 seats in the forthcoming Vidhan Sabha elections in the state.
The acute water crisis in Ranchi had taken a violent turn on Thursday when Bharat Prasad Sahu, a resident of Kishoreganj, injured six people, including a woman, at Bhuiyan Toli over water distribution.
Station in-charge of Kotwali police station S N Mandal said, "Two FIRs have been registered. The accused and the victims are undergoing treatment in hospitals at the moment."
The youth wing of JVM-P also sat on a dharna at Firayalal Chowk to protest against water scarcity in the city.
