Cops waiting for DNA report in toddler rape-murder case
Tatanagar rail police are waiting for the DNA report from the Gujarat-based laboratory in the infamous rape and beheading of a toddler.
Talking to TOI on Thursday, rail SP Ehtesham Waquarib said: “After we get the reports, police will decide the course of action in this case.” He added police are yet to file a chargesheet in this case and the department procedure will soon be over in connection with the filing of a chargesheet.
He also said as the victim’s mother is yet to file a plea for compensation, no money has been handed over to her yet.
A three-year-old girl from Purulia in West Bengal was kidnapped from Tatanagar railway station while she was sleeping beside her mother on the platform on July 25. On July 30, police recovered the torso of the girl from Ramdin Bagan area under Telco police station area.
Based on the complaint of the victim’s mother, her companion Monu Mandal was arrested. Later, after scanning the CCTV footage, police nabbed Rinku Shah and Kailash Kumar, one of them a habitual offender out on bail. A case had been registered against the trio under the stingent Pocso Act. The three accused are lodged at Gagidih Central Jail.
Rinku and Kailash confessed before the cops of raping the kid and later killing and beheading her. They dumped the torso and the head in Ramdin Bagan area. After a massive hunt for many days, police found the head on August 9. Police on August 10 had sent the head for DNA test at a Gujarat-based laboratory and are waiting for the report.
