RANCHI: Governor
Droupadi Murmu unveiled the prototype of
Bhagwan Birsa Munda's statue at a function here on Monday. The function was organised by Ulgulan foundation formed by former chief minister and All
Jharkhand Students Union (AJSU) party president
Sudesh Mahto last year.
The prototype showcased a glimpse of the gigantic statue that is likely to be constructed in the next couple of years. The decision to make a memorabilia of Birsa Munda was taken on November 15 last year during a public meeting at
Ulihatu, the birthplace of Birsa Munda in Khunti.
AJSU party convened a meeting to discuss measures to showcase the contribution of local tribal leader in freedom movement and inspiring statehood movement in the years to come.
Mahto said, "The statue of Ulgulan will symbolise the indomitable spirit of the soil's sons who have laid their lives in service of nation. It will not only attract tourists but it will also stand testimony to the long history of rebellion and sacrifice in Jharkhand."
