Jamshedpur ‘killer’ cop’s daughters allege dad fired at mother
JAMSHEDPUR: The statement recorded in court by the daughters against the suspended cop Manoj Gupta accused in the Sonari firing case may spell troubles for their father.
The daughters in their statement before the court said their father Manoj Gupta had fired at their mother Poonam Gupta on that fateful day.
It may be mentioned here that on July 27, sub-inspector Gupta had fired at his wife Poonam, Chandan and his mother Seema Devi at Gautam Naulakha Apartment under Sonari police station area, killing 65-year-old Seema on the spot.
The other two were injured in the attack were rushed to TMH. After being on the run for more than a day, the cop surrendered before the Steel City police.
Allegation of special treatment to the suspended cop Gupta after arrest made rounds in the media, when he was taken to his Sonari house without any handcuffs. Neighbours at the apartment were also surprised when such treatment was given to Gupta.
Later, Gupta was lodged in Gagidih Central Jail, where he complained of uneasiness and was shifted to the medical ward. Fingers were also pointed at the ongoing probe by the city cops as Gupta had surrendered his service revolver as the ‘murder’ weapon, which has only six bullets but Gupta had fired more than six shots. Questions were raised whether Gupta was trying to mislead the police in the probe. Whether he had used two revolvers or a pistol, if yes where was the second weapon. Why have the city cops not able to lay hands on that weapon.

The city police had taken Gupta on remand for questioning but is tight lipped over the whole probe.
Meanwhile, Gupta’s wife, who was discharged from TMH and left for Patna, alleged that his husband had planned the whole incident and then called her and Chandan from Patna. On the other hand Gupta had alleged that Poonam was having an extra-marital affair with Chandan, which Poonam refused and said he was his Rakhi brother.
Now, with daughters of Manoj, Priya and Neha both witness to the crime have pointed fingers at their father it would be difficult for Manoj to go scot-free, feel legal experts.
The daughters have also alleged that their father used to ill-treat their mother and never gave due respect to her. Legal experts feel that it would be difficult for the cop to get bail in the case as his daughters, prime witness in the case, have alleged that his father had fired at his mother.
