Jamshedpur residents jolted after earthquake rumours spread
JAMSHEDPUR: Residents of Jamshedpur were left worried after a rumour about an earthquake spread in the city in the early hours of Friday. While several people said they did not feel any tremor, others dialled up their friends and family to find out which part of the Steel City was affected. The regional meteorological department also confirmed that there was no earthquake recorded in Jharkhand on Friday.

The rumour spread after a section of the media reported an earthquake of 4.7 magnitude on the Richter Scale in Jamshedpur and adjoining areas.
“We did not experience tremors at home so I called up my sister in Baradwari to know whether they felt the ground shaking, but she confirmed that no tremors were felt in her area,” said Pursudih resident, S K Agarwal.
Jugsalai resident Avatar Singh said, “Around 8am, I received a phone call from my uncle from New Delhi. He had called to enquire about our well-being after hearing the news.”
When approached, director of India Meteorological Department, Ranchi, S D Kotal said there was no earthquake in Jharkhand on Friday.
“As per the study of our seismology department, Jamshedpur or any part of the state did not experience any earthquake on Friday,” Kotal said.
