RANCHI: Former Indian cricket team skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Central Coalfields Limited and Big Shop, all from Ranchi, have registered maximum individual income and accordingly generated maximum contribution for the country from Jharkhand during the financial year 2017-18.
Income tax department on Friday honoured the three along with six others in three different categories for maximum contribution in form of taxes— a first of its kind initiative being taken up across all I-T regions of the country.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni with a net tax return of Rs 12.17 crore retained the title of highest individual tax payer for the second year in succession. In FY 2016-17, he had paid Rs 10.93 crore to clinch the same position.
In the first quarter of the current financial year, Dhoni has already paid advance tax to the tune of Rs three crore in July this year.
Dhoni was however not present during the award ceremony nor did he send any representative to collect the honour.
“We would ensure to dispatch the honour at his residence because he has a busy schedule and may not have found time to attend the function,” principal chief commissioner of Income Tax for Bihar and Jharkhand KC Ghumaria said confirming that an invitation was sent to all such persons who were selected as top tax payers.

Sharing bright performance of the office of PCC of I-T, Ghumaria said that Bihar Jharkhand office stood at number four place in the country in terms of adding new assesses. “As against target of including 5.02 lakh new assessments we ensured 5.2 lakh new assesses,” he said.
In the list of highest individual tax payers, Dhoni was followed by 80-year-old businessman Nand Kishore Choudhary- a refugee from Pakistan who shifted to Ranchi in 1948 and started his cloth business from the scratch. Choudhary said that he always considered government as a 35% partner in his business. “Anyone can remain honest in business and still make enough profit,” he said. He was followed by another businessman Uday Shankar Prasad.
Among the corporates, CCL became the highest tax payer followed by Timken India Limited and Jamipol Limited both from Jamshedpur. The latter is a subsidiary of Tata steel limited.
The I-T office also honoured partnership firms of the state in which all top three tax payers are from Ranchi. The highest tax payer in this category is Big Shop, a multi-brand retail outlet followed by Kashyap Memorial Eye Hospital at the second and Brother’s Academy – a coaching institute at the third place.
