RANCHI: Whenever we talk about physical appearance or beauty, we often associate it with women, but men in Ranchi have broken this myth for its men and not women in Ranchi, who form a major chunk of the customers for the new-age spas that have mushroomed in the city over the past couple of years.
Amrita Prashad, owner of Silhouette Ladies Beauty Salon and Spa, said, "We provide services like hair spa to body massage but women in Ranchi are not that keen, rather men are more interested but as we don't provide services to males ,we have to refuse them." Another spa, however, knows how to cash in on the opportunity.
"We have noticed a rise in the number of spa visitors since last year. We provide several types of services such as body massage, full body scrub, etc., for both men and women, but we have more male customers" said Ajay Malhotra, owner of Ocean Relax Spa in Nucleus Mall.
In recent times, people are more concerned about their skin and physical appearance and spas are no longer just meant for the affluent class and neither are they located in five-star hotels any more. Now beauty salons are doubling up as spas too. Salons are turning into 'Spalons' that offer a holistic treatment for mind, body and soul."After an exhausting week at work, relaxation is everyone's desire and spa seems like the only solution." said advocate, Priyanka Singh. But Abhijit Kumar has a different purpose behind his spa visit. "As I have joined gym, my whole body becomes dull and my chin muscles get shrinked because of continuous workout and to maintain it, I need a proper massage," said the second year undergraduate student. Dermatologists said that there are no side-effects of massages and skin treatment regimes at spas as long as the quality of products are good. Associate Professor of Skin and STD at RIMS, Dr Prabhat Kumar said, "It depends on the customer's skin to determine how he or she is going to react to the treatments," he said, adding that fish spa is a little dangerous as there is a chance of infection from the fish.
