Palamu district recorded a spike in
suicide cases in the almost two-month long
lockdown, police here said on Friday. SP Ajay Linda said police has recorded 22 cases in various parts of the district from March 22 to June 5. Terming the deaths as a cause of concern, Linda urged civil society groups to intervene and raise awareness in the district’s rural pockets. Seven of the deaths were reported areas under from Manatu police station.
Sub divisional police officer Lesliganj Anup Baraik said two people committed suicide while they were in isolation. “The first case took place at a government-run quarantine centre in
Leslieganj while the other man ended his life while in
home quarantine. Both had tested negative for Covid-19,” Baraik added.
Besides
suicides, family feuds are also being reported. “With the migrants returning to their homes, we get regular reports of conflicts among the family members,” Linda said. Police stations across the district are anticipating a rise in land dispute cases, he added.
