Pre-wedding shoots are becoming wildly popular in the city
The journey of love is magical, and for those gearing up to start a new chapter in their lives, there is nothing more romantic than documenting their path to love in pictures. Pre-wedding shoots are becoming wildly popular in the city with various themes and location-specific shoots making it to the picture portfolio of couples in love.
Dedicated photography teams spend weeks on deciding on the theme, location and the set-up for such shoots.
Couples looking to recreate popular Bollywood poses spend days finalising the exact shots and the perfect location for the shoot with their photographers. Ranchi’s knack for pre-wedding shoots started a year or so ago, and young couples are shelling up to `80,000 for each shoot. Read on to find out what goes on behind the scenes to capture the perfect shot…
The shoot
A complete pre-wedding portfolio shoot can take anywhere between three days to a week to complete. Apart from the makeup and props, three to four photographers spend the day with the couple for the perfect shot. On their big day, makeup artists, stylists and prop guys come together to prepare the couples for the shoot, with each shot depicting the love in a couple’s life.
“We generally start with the planning of the shoot with the couple after they finalise a theme. The locations are sorted out accordingly and we even travel to exotic locations across the city and all over the state to shoot the portfolio. Every couple has a vision of their own and we try to include the personal tastes of both in the
pictures. Each composition tells a story and we try to make the pictures reflect the love between the couple,” said Anand Stephen Horo, a city-based
photographer and cinematographer.
Aerial shots are a big hit
Aerial photography using drones is a huge hit for pre-wedding shoots in the city. Be it the iconic top shot of a couple in a boat on an empty lake or a funkier versions atop hills, cars and what not, aerial shots are being loved by couples for their pre-wedding photos.
“I started using the concept of aerial shots in wedding portfolios and they are in huge demand in Ranchi. A package for the same can cost anywhere between Rs 30,000-Rs 35,000,” said Shubham Ghosh, a city photographer whose aerial photography is a huge hit.
Bollywood in vogue
Bollywood-themed shoots are the biggest rage among couples and recreating iconic scenes from blockbusters top the priority list for any pre-wedding shoot in the city. The photographers plan the shoot as required by the customers and use a variety of props to recreate the scene. Sam Bhuinya, a city photographer who shoots couples from all over India, said, “Bollywood-themed shoots need more planning and detail. Everyone wants to look like a movie star in these shots and we need to re-create that essence in them.”
Places matter
Meeting points, friends who introduced the couple and even the proposal locations are part of pre-wedding shoots. Since these locations play a huge role in the love story of a couple, many are choosing to tell the tale of their love through a series of pictures at the locations of prominence in their love lives.
Neel Nikhil Tirkey, a photographer from The Next Image, said, “Many couples prefer to shoot at places that reflect the stories of their lives. Libraries, coffee shops and even their place of work is a good start. We work on storyboards of such shoots first.”
Big bucks for big shoots
The pricing of pre-wedding shoots vary from photographer to photographer. Depending on the amount of travel and days of work involved, prices can range anywhere from Rs 30,000 to several lakhs.
“The charge is decided depending on the number of days and the locations. Generally a team of five-six people spend a few days for a complete shoot and depending on the logistics involved, the prices are determined,” said Prem Singh, a photographer from YourStory, a city-based photography service.
