RANCHI: The Ranchi district court set up counters with boxes for fresh filing, certified copies, notary and the bar at its premises to speed up the hearing of cases through video conferencing amid the lockdown. Acting on Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan directive, the Ranchi district court will run all its 38 courts through video conference during the ongoing lockdown. As many as 46 petitions, including 28 related to bail, were filed on the first day.
The court officials said that lawyers interested in getting their cases heard can put their petitions in the drop box between 8am-10pm.
The applications will be sanitised after 24 hours and sent to the judge concerned. During filing of petitions at the counters the lockdown norms, including social distancing, will be followed. The Ranchi District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) has also arranged for thermal scanning and sanitising the lawyers coming for filing.
DLSA secretary Abhishek Kumar said, “The hearings will be held through video conference using various apps, including vidyo app. All the court rooms in our new building have video conferencing facilities and the judges have also been equipped with the necessary gadgets. A video conferencing system will be set up in the judges colony as well. With it, we would not only hear the important cases but also the regular ones.” He added that regular matters like maintenance, surrender and mediation would be taken up. The cases in which trial has been completed would be expedited.
Kundan Prakashan, the general secretary of Ranchi District Bar Association, said, “At a time when judicial work has been highly curtailed due to lockdown, courts will start hearing the cases on a regular basis. It is a relief for lawyers and their clients who were getting frustrated due to the lack of work.”
