Ranchi past 100 with 22 new Covid-19 cases in Jharkhand, virus enters Steel City

RANCHI/DALTONGANJ/JAMSHEDPUR: The number of Covid-19 cases in Ranchi district crossed the 100-mark and Jharkhand’s score went past 200 as the state reported 22 fresh coronavirus cases, including five from the capital city, until 11pm on Monday. Ranchi’s tally now stands at 102 positive cases, of which one has died and 62 have recovered. This is the state’s biggest single-day spike, equaling the tally recorded on May 8.
On April 27, Jharkhand recorded it’s 100th case, 28 days after the first case was recorded on March 31.
It took just 17 days to add another 100 to the tally.
The virus also made an entry into Jamshedpur (East Singhbhum district), the largest urban agglomeration in the country untouched by Covid-19 until Wednesday, with one case recorded in Baridih Basti locality in the heart of the city.
Palamau district recorded seven fresh cases awhile Hazaribag eight (biggest single-day surge for both districts) and Koderma one, taking the state’s tally of positive cases to 203. Of these, 113 cases are active while two have died and 88 have recovered.
Of the fresh cases, 17 are migrants who have returned home in the last few days. This is the first time the state has more than 100 active cases.
The five patients from different parts of in Ranchi are women, of which four are pregnant woman. “One of them frontline worker employed at Rims. Three are from Angara block and one from Kokar,” Ranchi SDM Lokesh Mishra said.
Palamu DC Shantanu Agrahari said: “Seven migrants who have returned from Surat in Gujarat and
Baiakunthpur in Chhattisgarh tested positive on Thursday. They were under unstituional quarantine since their arrival and are being shifted to Palamu Medical College and Hospital.”
The eight patients in Hazaribag are migrant workers and have returned from red zones. “They have arrived from Kolkata and Mumbai. One is 30-year-old male from Katkamsandi block and another is a 36-year-old from Choparan block. Both have been shifted to Hazaribag Medical College and Hospital. The other six are also migrant workers who returned to Barkattha block recently,” he added.
Jamshedpur and Koderma recorded one case each and both are migrants who have come to these districts on their own transport. In Jamshedpur, a 35-year-old man who reached the city on his motorbike from Kolkata tested positive.
East Singhbhhum DC Ravi Shankar Shukla said he was in the isolation ward of the MGM hospital after he turned up for getting his samples tested. "The Kolkata resident was visiting his in-laws in Baridih area on May 11 and was admitted to the isolation ward soon after he turned up at MGM hospital for a check-up the same day. We are shifting him to hospital.” Shukla said: “The patient's in-laws, who stay in Baridih area, came in contact with the patient. Containment measures are being implemented in the locality and contact tracing is being carried out.”
Koderma DC Ramesh Gholap said, “A 51-year-old resident of Kako village under Chanwara block tested positive on Thursday. The patient had voluntarily turned up at a screening centre after he developed mild cold and cough. We collected his samples and he was under institutional quarantine since his arrival a couple of days back.”
