RANCHI: Several temple committees in the city are gearing up for 'Shiv ki barat' - a procession complete with individuals dressed as ghosts representing the deity's 'baratis' to mark the Mahashivratri celebrations.
Tight security arrangements have been made by the administration to provide a safe passage to the festival. Distribution, sale and consumption of marijuana-based-drug - bhang, which is a popular prasad during the festival, will also be monitored to avoid any untoward incident on Wednesday.
Ranchi deputy commissioner Rai Mahipat Ray said, "Orders have been issued to deploy magistrates and police forces at all critical points where any type of procession or any gathering is expected.
A meeting was held with the management committee of Pahari Mandir and sub-divisional magistrate to pass all necessary orders for the security arrangement." He added, "To maintain cleanliness around the temple premises, the Pahari Mandir management committee will coordinate with Ranchi Municipal Corporation and other agencies."
This is the first time that the processions will be taken out from three different locations in the city. The procession from Pahari Mandir will begin its tour across the capital at 1.30pm and reach Firayalal Chowk via Upper Bazar and Shahid Chowk. The second procession will reach Vishwanath Mandir at Piska More, where Lord Shiva will be ritually married off to Goddess Sita. Mumbai artists have been roped in for a special 'Shiv Tandav' performance for the procession from Ratu Road located at Shri Krishna Nagar. The third procession in the capital will be led by Chutia based Sriram Mandir.
Ray said the city will be under the radar of the administration to ensure a peaceful and joyous celebration. "A joint order by the DC and the SSP has been circulated for effective management of the festival. All police stations will be actively monitoring the situation and control room will be coordinating with them," he added.
