DHANBAD: After almost two years, the Dhanbad-Chandrapura rail line was restarted on Sunday with the flagging off of Dhanbad-Allapuzza Express by Dhanbad and Giridih MPs P N Singh and Ravindra Pandey along with local MLA Raj Sinha.
The 34-km rail route was closed on June 15, 2017 after underground fire was detected close by.
Unhappy with the closure, there has been several agitations, dharnas and protests by people of the region, especially Katras and Baghmara areas, demanding its reopening.
Altogether 26 trains were either cancelled or diverted after the closure of the route.
Speaking to media persons on Sunday, MP Ravindra Pandey said, “Closure of the rail line had disturbed the life of many living along the rail line. My top priority was to restart the rail line. Many important trains used to ply on this route which are now diverted. With the reopening of this track, those trains will be re-routed. It is a victory for over 10 lakh people living in Katrasgarh and Baghmara region.”
The Dhanbad Rail Division said initially eight trains will be re-rerouted to the line before gradually diverting other trains.
