Won’t give this seat to any partner, says Congress
Dumka: Even as state Congress president Ajoy Kumar and JVM-P chief Babulal Marandi met in Giridih to thrash out a seat-sharing formula ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, Congress on Wednesday reiterated it's stand that it will not hand over the Godda parliamentary constituency seat to any party.
Talking to the media in Deoghar on Wednesday, former minister of state and Congress’s Jharkhand in-charge RPN Singh said: “Under no circumstances will Congress handover the Godda parliamentary seat to any other alliance partner.
We will field our own candidate here.” Singh was in the temple town to attend a party programme in Santhal Pargana division.
JVM-P has also staked its claim over the Godda LS constituency, currently represented by BJP’s Nishikant Dubey, with party's principal secretary and former MP Pradip Yadav as the prospective candidate.
Marandi who was in Dumka recently had hinted that his party wont budge over the seat. “It is time that Congress, being a national party, demonstrate it's generosity and help JVM-P field a candidate from Godda for the larger interest of the mahagathbandhan,” Marandi had stated, hinting that his party might not join the alliance if Congress did not give in to his demand.
Marandi went on to say that fielding a Congress leader from Godda would mean BJP wins its third consecutive term in this constituency. Sources said, Congress is aiming to field former Godda MP Furkan Ansari from this seat.
