SALEM: The district administration is taking steps to bring to Sithur village the body of a 40-year-old jawan who was killed in J&K during ceasefire violation by Pakistan troops on Thursday. A senior official said
Army officials have sent
P Mathiazhagan's body to Coimbatore via flight.
"We will receive the body at the airport and will reach his native village on Saturday," he said, adding that, Mathiazhagan will be buried with full honours.
Mathiazhagan was initially admitted to a government hospital, but died without responding to treatment on Friday. His wife M Tamilarasi told TOI Army officials informed her of her husband's death on Friday morning. Mathiazhagan, who has two children, joined the Army in 1999. "He was working with the army regiment in Akhnoor," Tamilarasi said, adding that he had spoken to her on Thursday morning, just hours before he was shot.
CM Edappadi K Palanimswami expressed grief over the jawan's death and promised 20 lakh compensation for the slain soldier's fam ily.
