SHILLONG: The East Khasi Hills district in Meghalaya moved from the red to orange zone on Friday as the district did not report any Covid-19 positive case for the last 14 days.
“East Khasi Hills district, which has recorded 12 Covid-19 cases and one death till date, has not reported a single fresh coronavirus case in the last 14 days,” a senior health official said. He added that the district has just one active case at present as 10 patients have been cured of the virus already.
Deputy chief minister Prestone Tynsong on Saturday, while announcing a host of relaxation in lockdown norms, said,
“After May 3, only night curfew from 7 pm to 7 am will remain in Shillong and its adjoining areas.
All state government officers and heads of departments in the state secretariat have also been asked to report for duty.”
He added, “Electric shops, hardware shops and wine stores will also be allowed to open but they need to adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures and maintain social distancing norms.”
The deputy CM said Grade C and D employees will function with 33% attendance. Speaking on bringing back students and workers of Meghalaya stuck in other northeastern states, Tynsong said they will be allowed to return to the state from April 5 and all instructions have already been shared with village headmen and traditional heads. Those who intend to return may fill up online forms at http://meghalayaonline.gov.in/covid before May 4.
“Those coming into the state will be screened at various entry points. In case anybody shows Covid-19 symptoms, he or she will be tested with rapid test kits, the result of which will determine whether they will be sent to institutional or home quarantine,” he added.
