SHILLONG: Followers of various faiths brought out processions on Sunday, in a show of religious vibrance that Shillong represents.
While Catholic Christians joined the annual Holy Eucharistic procession in large numbers, the Sikhs observed the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev.
The Annual Eucharistic procession of the Shillong Arch Diocese was brought out from the Cathedral of Mary Help of Christians.
In keeping with his promise to the (late) Archbishop Dominic Jala, His Eminence Cardinal Charles Bo, Cardinal of Myanmar, was the main celebrant at the Holy Mass held on Sunday morning. Four Bishops from the northeast and many other priests were also a part of the Holy Mass.
The Sikh Sangat brought out a procession from the Shillong Gurudwara.
The Eucharistic Procession, which was joined in by thousands of Catholic faithful from across the region, concluded with the Benediction at the Calvary.
Apart from children, dressed in colourful attires, a large number of tourists also took part in the processions.
Attired in their colourful best, people from rural areas of the state took part in the procession in large numbers. Make-shift food stalls were set up, and ethnic dishes were served to those taking part in the processions.
